Krakow - European Capital of Gastronomy Culture 2019

Krakow - European Capital of Gastronomy Culture 2019

The royal city of Krakow has the title - European Capital of Catering Culture 2019. In the final finale Krakow fought with Lisbon, but ultimately the European Gastronomic Academy decided that the city of Krakowa deserved this exceptional distinction.

Culinary facts from Krakow

It is known from today that Krakow spoils their residents and tourists with cyclical culinary events, to say about the Małopolska Festival of Taste, which presents regional producers of honey, cheese and cold meats; or about the Action of the Recommendation of Krakow Restaurants, where 120 restaurateurs were honored in the last edition.

Krakow's restaurants are also distinguished by quality! 26 objects received the Michelin guide's distinction, 61 went to the "yellow guide" Gaullt & Millau, and 8 recommended Slow Food Polska. We are not surprised at this success, because Krakow has: good recipes, top-quality products from local producers, and is also great at picking up guests.

The best flavors of Krakow.

“Obwarzanek” is undoubtedly the culinary hallmark of Krakow! There is probably no street in this city, on which there wouldn’t have been a characteristic blue cart filled to the brim with this delicacy. Three basic variants are: obwarzanek with salt, with poppy seeds and sesame seeds. Nothing surprising in the fact that the calendar of gastronomic events has been devoted to him all two months: April and May.

The “City of King Krak” has many more delicacies in its offer, which you must try! August - this is the month of pierogi. It will be possible to try them in all kinds of flavors! These traditional ones, e.g. with cabbage and mushrooms, with meat and also sweet with white sweet cheese or fruits; and those in more sophisticated and dry versions like: with spinach, duck and plums or pumpkin. There is a rumor... who will try dumplings once, don’t want to eat other things!
We can not wait! And you?
Krakow is also the centuries-old tradition of street food - in the Middle Ages on the streets you could meet “faryny”, portable stalls, with simple popular food among townsmen, merchants and students. The 17th-century hit is the "Cracow language", which again returns to favor.

Culinary events - how to plan a trip to Krakow?

The title of the European Capital of Gastronomy Culture 2019 obliges, which is why practically a whole lot of culinary events await you throughout the year, including Gastronomic Congress for specialists and culinary enthusiasts from around the world; meetings of Krakow's chefs and celebrities running restaurants distinguished among others Michelin guide stars from different parts of the globe; or the "virtual cooking" action, which will consist in simultaneous preparation of Krakow and Polish cuisine at various restaurants, and all of this will be possible to follow through the internet.

However, amateurs of culinary tourism or taste tourism should plan their stay in Krakow in detail wright now! April and May is the already mentioned Obwarzanek Festival; in June we will participate in the Celebration of the Bread, the Świętojański Fair or a cycle devoted to Polish Culinary Treasures (rerun of the event in November); July and August is the time of picnics, and in August - the Pierogi Festival; in November, the Young Wine Festival awaits for us.

As you can see, the calendar is quite tight, and the culinary program is rich in a variety of flavors and aromas, so now open the calendar and make a note of the best time to travel!
